Grants

Grants are awarded automatically, usually based on financial need (as determined by the FAFSA). Like scholarships, they do not need to be repaid. Eligibility for most grants is determined based on information you provide on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and/or other institutional financial aid forms.

Funding for federal and state grant programs subject to annual budget decisions.

Must agree to teach in a school serving low-income students for 4 years and be qualified to teach in a high-demand subject area. The Federal TEACH Grant is not determined by financial need. The grant converts into a direct unsubsidized loan if the agreement is not fulfilled.

State Grants

The state of Michigan offers several scholarships and grants for students. We've highlighted a couple below.

  • Tuition grant awarded to Michigan residents with qualifying financial need attending a private college. Grant is subject to the annual state of Michigan budget approval.
  • To be eligible, your FAFSA needs to be filed no later than May 1, prior to the start of each academic year.

  • Funds from the State of Michigan for students who file a FAFSA and have moderate to high financial need. 
  • For full-time undergraduate students graduating from high school in the spring of 2023 and later. Students who graduated earlier are not eligible.
