The Center Art Gallery’s inaugural Visiting Artist is Marissa Voytenko, a Michigan-based artist whose encaustic paintings and sculptural works explore the intersection of the physical and spiritual worlds through striking geometric abstraction.

In 1759 colonial Mauritius, enslaved 16‑year‑old Mati flees to join rumored maroon hideouts, triggering a brutal manhunt led by the plantation owner and slave hunter Madame La Victoire. Her father Massamba escapes the plantation, journeying through the jungle to find her. Their survival quest becomes a profound break from colonial oppression.

The January Series welcomes the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan to the campus of ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ for a discussion on the partnership between the United States and the Republic of Korea. The talk is free and open to the public. No reservations required.
