Education professionals seeking employment outside the State of Michigan should contact the department of education in the state or territory where they wish to apply. Applicants are encouraged to obtain guidance from the school district in which they apply or obtain a position.  

Michigan has a signed with every state agreeing to accept out-of-state teacher preparation programs and teaching certificates on a reciprocal basis for initial certification. The provides information about requirements for obtaining licensure beyond Michigan licensure. 

A candidate enrolled in any of Calvin鈥檚 initial or advanced licensure programs is encouraged to complete the curriculum, clinical experiences, internships, and appropriate Michigan Teacher Test for Certification (MTTC) licensure exams to obtain the appropriate Michigan license. Typically this will allow for a smoother transition to another state and the attainment of a teaching certificate in that state. 

The Calvin Education Program works with program completers to document coursework, licensure exams, and clinical experience requirements for licensure in other states and territories. Program completers should email forms specific to state licensure requirements to certification@calvin.edu
