Meghan Nelson

Counseling Intern

Biography

I have always been a passionate advocate for individuals in my community, particularly those navigating mental health challenges. This calling led me to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ, followed by a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at Western Michigan University, where I am currently completing my clinical training.

Beyond my academic and professional pursuits, I have a deep appreciation for nature and the arts. I enjoy creative expression, reading, spending time with loved ones, and savoring a good cup of coffee and sweet treats. I am also environmentally conscious and committed to sustainable living—transitioning from being a pescatarian to a vegetarian and actively promoting environmental awareness among those around me.

Professional Experience

I believe strongly in the value of education and have been fortunate to receive robust training in mental health practice through both ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ and Western Michigan University.

Following the completion of my undergraduate degree, I worked at Network180 as a Supports Coordinator, where I facilitated access to community resources for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). After this role, I spent a summer in Wisconsin working as a ceramicist and artist, further nurturing my creative passions.

I later served as a psychological testing intern at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, focusing on ADHD and ASD assessments. Concurrently, I worked at D.A. Blodgett–St. John’s (DABSJ) as a Supports Coordinator, assisting children with I/DD in accessing essential community support. I went on to intern at DABSJ as a therapist, providing counseling services to children within the foster care system in Kent County.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and age groups—including children, adolescents, and adults—addressing a wide range of mental health concerns such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, mood disorders, eating disorders, and self-injury.

I remain a committed advocate for mental health awareness and strive to foster resilience, inclusion, and healing within the communities I serve.
