Edith van der Boom: Cultivating Learning Communities of Belonging

  • Thu, May 01, 2025
  • 6:15 pm–9:00 pm

Meeter Center Lecture Hall

We are excited to welcome Edith van der Boom to campus, author of Cultivating Communities of Belonging! Dr. van der Boom believes inclusive learning environments should go beyond the considerations of academic and physical differences, embracing the inherent value of every individual as an image bearer of God. Join us as she explores how to create a community that honors all students regardless of their culture, race, gender, sexual orientation, or experiences with trauma.

In Cultivating Learning Communities of Belonging, Edith van der Boom invites readers into open and honest conversations that nurture a sense of belonging and community. Combining current research with real-life stories, her book offers practical activities for groups to engage in meaningful reflection as they read together. Dr. van den Boom's hope is to create spaces for thoughtful dialogue that inspire the design of transformative learning experiences, aligning with God’s story of restoration.

Come hear Dr. van der Boom speak on the importance of how our assumptions, values, and practices guide our classroom cultures, followed by a time of Q & A.
